Matthew 8:26

He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

In today’s miracle story, Jesus and His disciples sailed across a lake when a storm hit. There were strong winds, heavy rain, and big waves. The disciples felt terrified and were afraid they were going to drown. One disciple noticed Jesus was asleep, so he went to wake Him up and said, “Save us, do you even care if we drown?” Jesus responded with the words in today’s Bible passage and told the winds, rain, and waves to be silent. The wind, rain, and waves obeyed Him, and the storm ended.

Have you ever been so terrified that you questioned your faith in God? I went skiing in Breckenridge, Colorado over Christmas break. One of the trails I attempted to go down was extremely steep. While making my way down the trail, I lost control, ended up falling, and my skis went flying off my feet. As hard as I tried, I couldn’t get my skis back on. I was terrified.

This was the steepest trail I had ever been down, and I wasn’t quite sure how I was going to get to the bottom safely.

Just like Jesus was there to help the disciples during the storm, He was also there with me when I was scared and unsure how I was going to get to the bottom of the trail. This experience reminded me I should talk to Jesus when I am feeling worried and should trust Him to carry me when I don’t feel in control.

Pray with me…

Heavenly Father, thank You for always being with me when I am scared.Help me to trust You and remember that You are always in control. Amen.
