Matthew 8:24-25
Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!”
Think about a time you confidently moved forward with something only to later feel scared or in over your head. How do you handle fear and doubt when navigating life’s storms? My mind often thinks: “I’ll get over it; I just have to be dramatic first!” When stress peaks for me, I usually stop, cry, finally remember to pray, and shortly thereafter, find relief. No doubt this is God at work.
Telling others to pray and trust that God is with them is not as difficult as facing our own battles. Too often, we turn to Jesus last. The disciples struggled with that, too. We might think they would have confidence in Jesus’ power after witnessing some of His other miracles not long before this fearful moment.
They panicked and questioned Jesus’ concern for them when they felt they were in danger. In one version of this story, the disciples even asked Jesus, “Don’t you care if we drown?” (Mark 4:38)
Because Jesus is God, He knew about the storm before He led the disciples onto the boat to cross the sea. He knew He would calm the storm. He knew He would save them then, and He knew that shortly after He would save us all on the cross. He knows our battles now, and He promises to be with us always.
This season, let us reflect and remember that Jesus is all-knowing, all-powerful, and always with us. Don’t let the storms get in the way of your faith.
Pray with me…
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promise that You will never leave us. We look forward to reflecting on the goodness of Your miracles this season. Strengthen our faith each day through Your words and promises, and help us share Your good news with those around us. When we face life’s challenges, please give us the peace and courage that only You can provide. We love you, Jesus! Amen.
