Luke 7:14-15
Then he went up and touched the bier they were carrying him on, and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I say to you, get up!” The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.
Jesus has a way of showing up right in the middle of our grief and meeting us exactly where we are. In today’s Bible passage, Jesus came across a funeral procession in the town of Nain. A widow had just lost her only son, and as his body was being carried out, Jesus noticed her. The Bible says, When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, “Don’t cry.” (Luke 7:13).
In that moment, hope met heartbreak. The widow didn’t ask Jesus for anything—she may not even have had the words. But Jesus was moved with compassion. He stepped forward, touched the stretcher, and raised the young man from the dead.
This miracle isn’t just about someone coming back to life—it’s about restoration. Jesus gave this grieving woman her future back.
After having already lost her husband, she was facing a life filled with uncertainty. Jesus has a way of stepping into what feels final and changing everything.
This story reminds us that Jesus still shows up in our hardest moments. He doesn’t stay at a distance—He steps into the mess with us, meets us in our pain, and speaks life into us when we can’t see a way forward.
We serve a God who cares deeply for us—so deeply that He sent His one and only Son. That kind of love calls for gratitude, praise, and trust as we place our hope in Him.
Pray with me…
Jesus, thank You for showing up when we’re hurting and for meeting us right where we are. Thank You for caring about our pain and stepping into it with us. When things feel heavy or final, help us trust You and remember that You still bring life and hope. We put our hope in You and thank You for loving us so well. Amen.
