Early Service FAQ
On Sunday, September 12, we’re starting something new. We’re adding an early service to our schedule. It’s something our whole team is excited about, and we know you’ve got questions. So we’re here to give you some answers.
What time will the service start?
The early service will start at 8:30 AM with Connect Time at 9:45 AM and our existing service moved back to 11:00 AM.
What will the service be like?
The new service will not be a carbon copy of the former 9:00 AM service. Our vision is to create a new expression of worship that emphasizes familiarity, simplicity, intimacy, and fellowship. We’ll sing everything from treasured hymns to modern worship songs. Instrumentation will typically be simple and frequently include the organ and grand piano. Volume in the room will be lower than the current service.
What will communion be like?
The kneeling rails will return, and we’ll be able to come to the rail for prayer, communion, and other special events. Communion will be received at the rail where you’ll have the option to receive the elements from a pastor, elder or lay-leader or use pre-packaged elements.
Will we be able to come to the kneeling rails for prayer time?
Yes, there will be regular opportunities to come to the kneeling rails for prayer, communion, and other special occasions like installations, commissionings, etc.
Will there be haze to enhance lighting?
Haze is used to enhance stage lighting by making it visible over a broader area. We’ve heard from some people for whom haze causes distraction or discomfort, and we envision a simpler, more organic worship experience in the early service, so we will not be using haze.
Will there be programming for children?
The early service will be a family worship service. For children ages birth through 3, there will be age-appropriate programming in the Community Center. All other children will join us in worship. We’ll still offer programming for children from birth to sixth grade during Connect Time at 9:45 AM and during the worship service at 11:00 AM.
Do you need volunteers?
We're so glad you asked! As a matter of fact, we do. A new service means new volunteer opportunities all over campus. There’s a place at Salem for you to use your gifts. Visit salem4u.com/serve to find out more.
